Ingredients

  • 80 g butter (¼ cup + 2 tbsp)
  • 100 g dark chocolate or 50 g dark and milk (1/2 cup)
  • 125 ml of milk (1/2 cup)
  • 2 eggs
  • 150 g of sugar (3/4 cup)
  • 150 g of self-raisin flour (¾ cup + 3 tbsp)
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder

  1. Preheat the oven to 170ºC, 338°F (top and bottom).
  2. Line 21cm baking tin with greaseproof paper. 
  3. Put butter and chocolate in a saucepan, heat on the lowest heat, stirring constantly until the ingredients melt and you get a smooth chocolate paste. Set aside from heat, add milk and mix until smooth.
  4. In a bowl, beat eggs with sugar (about 4 minutes) into a fluffy mixture. Sift flour into a second bowl, add baking powder and mix thoroughly. Add beaten eggs and chocolate together, mix at a minimum speed only to combine the ingredients into a dough.
  5. Put it into a cake tin and bake for around 40-45 minutes. In a tin larger than 21 cm, the cake will be baked shorter, about 30 – 35 minutes, check it with a toothpick put in the middle, whether it is dry, is ready.
  6. After baking, remove the cake from the oven and cool down for about 30 minutes in the mould, then put on a cake stand.
