Homemade vanilla body cream

This is a homemade vanilla body cream recipe.

Precious oils sourced from plant seeds, milk, honey, essential oils and flower petals – these are the first cosmetics known to humanity. The need for body care and care is as old as the culture.

Natural cosmetics are universal. With a few basic ingredients, you can prepare one universal cream that will work as a face moisturiser, protective body lotion and a product for hands and feet. Cosmetic companies rarely care about universal cosmetics, because it is much more profitable to launch a whole series of products with similar effects.

The number of vegetable oils available can make you feel dizzy (and ruin your wallet). Unless you plan to write a book about natural cosmetics, don’t buy everything! Just a few universal base oils suitable for your skin type.

I have many oils and I am happy to buy new products, but there are a few that I use most of the time. These are: almond oil, shea butter, unrefined coconut oil, argan oil, jojoba oil and grape seed oil. They work perfectly with my combination skin.

Ingredients for 250 ml
  • Water phase
    • 110 g distilled water (55%)
    • 4 g glycerine (2%)
  • Heated oil phase
    • 50 g virgin olive oil (25%)
    • 20 g shea butter (10%)
    • 4 g cetyl alcohol (2%)
    • 4 g emulsifying wax (2%)
  • Cool down phase
    • 2 g preservative 12 (1%)
    • 1 g vitamin e (0.5%)
    • 5 g essential oils (2.5%) (I used vanilla, chocolate and camomile)

As always, be aware that making substitutions will change the final product. While these swaps won’t break the recipe, you will get a different final product than I did.

HOW TO MAKE IT follow the link

I love to experiment making my own cosmetics. It feels like creating something of my own, which not only looks like a cream, but also works like a cream. I have better control over what is inside my jar and I can be sure that I won’t find carcinogenic, allergenic or artificial ingredients in it.

Because this cream contains water, you must include a preservative to ward off microbial growth. This is non-optional. Even with a preservative this project is likely to eventually spoil as our kitchens are not sterile laboratories, so in the event you notice any change in colour, scent, or texture, chuck it out and make a fresh one.

Enjoy this homemade vanilla body cream.
